News and Discussion:
- This may be a reason to make sure everyone using IE is on version 8 which does not seem to be affected by this newest zero-day vulnerability. Microsoft is scrambling to fix it before a reliable exploit is published. Exploits have been released, but they tend to be quite unreliable.
- Here is a possible glimpse into the future of green storage It uses standard hard drives and spins down drives when not in use. This is not new – but there is the problem of the time it takes to spin the drive back up and the resulting delay I access. This system used an SSD on the front end to compensate with some sort o caching scheme. This is still experimental, but it shows that there are greener alternatives to the present technologies.
- I thought this was an interesting legal issue. What is the level of responsibility of media providers like Google? Can they be held liable for inappropriate content? What are the limits? What if someone uploaded video of a horrific crime? Animal abuse? Murder? Services like youtube present the possibility that this will happen. Who regulates this stuff?
- A story from Oz that had nothing to do with tech, but struck me as interesting Thought it might bring out some comments form our Aussie Nerds. I had no idea there even were camels in Austrailia!!
